Optical Fiber Loop Mirror Applications: A Review

Abstract

Optic fiber loop mirror and its applications are reviewed and discussed. Some of these applications are simple switching, all-optical signal demultiplexing, fiber loop amplifier, fiber laser, and protection switching. The path protection switching is introduced for the first time to our knowledge. The design and performance of such novel design are introduced and investigated. A 10-Gbps modulated signal is successfully routed to a different path using such design. These applications can be used to enable all-optical networks.
